The CAPE Skills Curriculum

beginning of content:
AP Digital Edge is a pilot pairing Advanced Placement Program® courses with software skills taught in career and professional education.

The career and professional education (CAPE) skills curriculum familiarizes students with the software that's been paired with the AP course; for example, Microsoft Excel 2013 with AP Microeconomics. Before the AP course begins, its teacher is trained and certified in the software. Go to Teacher Training and Resources to learn more.

Schools participating in AP Digital Edge can choose how to offer students instruction in the CAPE content. For example:

  • Some schools offer a standalone course in the CAPE skills that students take before they begin the AP course.
  • Other schools teach the CAPE content through intensives — either a week of after-school study sessions or a full-day Saturday session.
  • Some schools teach the CAPE content within the AP course itself.
